「From the lab to the market: alternative career pathways for researchers in the 4th industrial revolution」

■Summary	:	The GSDM program aims students to foster inter-disciplinarily into their careers and to utilize their research and knowledge to tackle real-world issues. Dr. Pilar Manchon, current Director of Amazon’s Cognitive Interfaces (leading company in the application of Artificial Intelligence) is a role model to look at. Originally from Seville (Spain), she studied an undergraduate in English Philology. Then, she combined her passion for linguistics and physics into a master’s degree on cognitive science and natural language, and finally into a Ph.D. on Computational linguistics. In the meantime, she coursed entrepreneurship and successfully founded and developed Intelligent Dialogue Systems S.L. for human-computer interaction. She raised over €5M in capital and grants to develop the solution, jumpstart the business and expand internationally, building the largest Virtual Assistant RFPs. Later she managed the exit through the acquisition by Intel, where she worked for three years until joining Amazon in 2016 as the Director Amazon’s Cognitive Interfaces 　Dr. Manchon will be one of the panelists during the 5th GSDM International Symposium. In order to benefit the most, a group of students and young faculty would like to hold this Interactive Evening Lounge to discuss career development from science world with her. 　The session will proceed in the form of a roundtable in which open and frank productive talk will be promoted:

17:00 – 17:05:	Welcoming remarks and introduction of GSDM to Dr. Manchon
17:05 – 17:15:	Short self-introduction of participants (name, research area, other research and non-research interests)
17:15 – 17:30:	Dr. Manchon, personal experience on career development (moving from pure science to the business world, women careers in STEM)
17:30 – 18:00:	Open talk between students (and faculty members) and Dr. Manchon.
