2020/10/13

Online Seminar “Methods for Social Design and Management” was held as follows.

■Date & Time : 10h-12h, 25th September 2020
■Host : Cross-Departmental Educational Program ‘Global Leadership Program for Social Design and Management (GSDM2.0)’
■Co-sponsor : Science, Technology, and Innovation Governance (STIG)

■Outline:
In this seminar, we examined methodological questions to design solutions for the tackling of social issues in a variety of fields, namely: resources/environment/energy, health/medical care, space/ocean, security, global economy, food/life, AI/digitization, and learning/communication. Such examination proceeded from the viewpoints of engineering, agriculture studies, informatics, and public policy studies.
In the first part of the seminar, we compared the concept of design in each field. “Is design possible, in the first place? How to handle values when setting required specifications? How to handle self-organization?” We then examined cases/precedents related to design process such as the roles of stakeholders, the role of scenario in design, ethics, transition.
In the second part, a discussion took place based on the first part’s outcomes.
